What's in your supplements?

-Excerpt from E-News, August 21, 2014

Did you know that the safety and efficacy of Natural Health Products in Canada must be supported by proper evidence so that consumers know the products are safe and effective? All natural health products must have a product licence before they can be sold in Canada. To get a licence, applicants must give detailed information about the product to Health Canada, including: medicinal ingredients, source, dose, potency, non-medicinal ingredients and recommended use(s). Once Health Canada has assessed a product and decided it is safe, effective and of high quality, it issues a product licence along with an eight-digit Natural Product Number (NPN) or Homeopathic Medicine Number (DIN-HM), which must appear on the label, and lets you know that the product has been reviewed and approved by Health Canada, or that approval is pending. This Natural Health Products compliance and NPN number does not apply to supplements that you can buy from internet sites outside of Canada.

If you’re uneasy about identifying high-quality supplement sources, don’t worry. We’ve eliminated much of the research for you! Here at Foodsmiths, we work hard to ensure that the supplements we sell are high quality, sustainably produced, organic where possible and science-based, from trusted companies.
