What to do about aging skin

by Deb Garbutt

Wrinkles, sagging, crepe like skin, stiff creaking joints?  Blame it on a slowdown in collagen production in the body.  I‘ve actually started using my own skin as an example of collagen breakdown while talking with Foodsmiths customers. So when I was presented with this product, needless to say I was overjoyed.
While researching the role of collagen in the body, I was fascinated to discover it is the most prevalent protein we have, an amazing 30%. It provides elasticity, flexibility and strength to our joints and SKIN, and is quite frankly the glue that holds our bodies together!
Collagen types I, II, and III are the most common collagen in humans. Collagen Type I and III are found in abundance in the skin, tendons, ligaments, bones, teeth, and in between organs. Type II is abundant in the cartilage and eyes and Type III is found in the muscles, blood vessels, and skin.

Some Cool Facts about Collagen:

Type I collagen fibrils are stronger than steel. (We are all the man (and woman) of steel! Move over, Superman!)
Collagen production typically begins to decline after the age of 40
Controllable factors that damage the production of collagen include sunlight, smoking and high sugar consumption. (This was somewhat upsetting!)
Collagen is responsible for the replacement of dead skin cells.
So it’s understandable that when collagen production begins to slow down in the body, things can go south quickly (and literally!)
Collagen rich foods are cabbage, red fruit & veggies, oranges, turkey, soy, green beans, flaxseed and prunes. That makes one crazy banquet! And at my age, I feel I’d have to eat this entire smorgasbord of foods 3 times a day to see any benefits.  So supplementation with a collagen product is essential for me, and so much more convenient!
Choosing the right  brand will ensure that you are getting the optimum amount of collagen and, most importantly, that it is easily assimilated into the body. Hydrolyzed collagen is the most absorbable form of collagen. It’s a process whereby the collagen molecule is made smaller for easier, faster absorption.
Collagen greatly benefits from 2 other supportive substances, Hyaluronic Acid and Chondroitin sulfate.
These 3 essential building blocks are found in Chicken Sternal Cartilage. This Type II form of hydrolyzed collagen has proven effective for both joint health and skin.
BIOCELL is an innovation of hyaluronic acid and chondroitin sulfate based hydrolyzed collagen type II. 4 human clinical trials (randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled) 3 trials on joints and 1 trial on skin have proven this product safe and effective.

Biocell looks like the one I’m betting the farm on to help with the sags, wrinkles and creaking joints!
