Foodsmiths Cooking Instructions: Bulk Beans


Adzuki Beans

Directions: Rinse 1/2 cup of beans.  Soak in 2 cups cold water for 8 hours or bring water and beans to a boil for 2 minutes.  Cover and set aside to soak for 1 hour.  Then boil for 10 minutes.  Stir beans into 2 cups fresh boiling water.  Simmer covered for 40 min to 1 hour.

Yields: 1 cup

Black Beans                                                                 

Directions: Rinse 1 cup beans.  Soak in cold water for 8 hours or bring water and beans to a boil for 10 minutes.  Cover and set aside to soak for 1 hour.  Rinse.  Stir 1 cup beans into 4 cups fresh boiling water.  Simmer covered for 1½ hours.

Yields: 2 cups

Chick Peas/Garbanzo Beans:

Directions: Rinse 1 cup beans.  Soak in cold water for 8 hours or bring water and beans to a boil for 10 minutes.  Cover and set aside to soak for 1 hour.  Rinse.  Stir 1 cup beans into 4 cups fresh boiling water.  Simmer covered for 3 hours.

Yields: 2 cups

Great Northern Beans:                                                     

Directions: Rinse 1 cup beans. Soak in cold water for 8 hours or bring water and beans to a boil for 2 minutes.  Cover and set aside to soak for 1 hour, and then boil for 10 minutes. 

Stir 1 cup beans into 3 ½ cups fresh water, bring to a boil.  Simmer covered for 2 hours.

Yields: 2 cups

Kidney Beans:                                                                     

Directions: Rinse 1 cup beans.  Soak in cold water for 8 hours or bring water and beans to a boil for 2 min.  Cover and set aside to soak for 1 hour, and then boil for 10 min.  Stir 1 cup beans into 3 cup fresh water, bring to a boil.  Simmer covered for 1½ hours.

Yields: 2 cups

Navy Beans:

Directions: Rinse 1 cup beans. Soak in cold water for 8 hours or bring water and beans to a boil for 2 minutes. Cover and set aside to soak for 1 hour, and then boil for 10 minutes. Stir in 1 cup beans into 3 ½ cups fresh water, bring to a boil. Simmer covered for two hours.

Yields: 2 cups  

Pinto Beans:                                            

Directions: Rinse 1 c beans.  Soak in cold water for 8 hours or bring water and beans to a boil for 2 min.  Cover and set aside to soak for 1 hour, then boil for 10 min. Stir 1 c beans into 3 c fresh water, bring to a boil.  Simmer covered for 2 ½ hours.

Yields: 2 cups
