Recipe: Fried Oatmeal

This recipe is really your recipe! Besides oatmeal, almond milk and water, choose your own ingredients and make these bars uniquely yours. Customize to your individual tastes and dietary requirements. Try adding anything and everything: honey, maple syrup, pecans, walnuts, almonds, cashews, raisins, dried blueberries, cranberries, tart cherries (we used tart cherries in our version) and lots more. Our version is also free of gluten and dairy.

You will need...

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 1 cup large flake oats
  • 1 large tbsp coconut oil
  • Your additions

Put it together...

In a medium pot cook oatmeal in water and almond milk until thickened. The oatmeal will be quite thick, which helps it stay together. Add your additions and stir to distribute evenly. Pour into a loaf or square cake pan and tamp down with a spoon. Cover and refrigerate until chilled, 3 hours or overnight. Heat coconut oil in fry pan over medium heat. Slice oatmeal into 1 inch pieces and fry in oil until browned. Allow to cool. Easy take on the road breakfast!
