Vision health has become a topic of great concern as up to 33% of the baby boomer population is affected by age-related macular degeneration. With screen time and exposure to blue light at an all-time high, eye practitioners are seeing potential for oxidative damage to the cornea, lens and retina of the eye, which can increase the risk of longer-term eye ailments even in younger generations.
The eye-health benefits of key antioxidants were uncovered in two large studies: the Age-Related Eye Disease Study 2 (AREDS 2) looked at the impact of specific doses of vitamin C, vitamin E, zinc, copper and zeaxanthin on age-related macular degeneration, and the Lutein Antioxidant Supplementation Trial (LAST) focused on the effects of lutein. Amazingly, AREDS 2 found that its combination of antioxidants reduced the risk of age-related macular degeneration progressing from intermediate to advanced by 25%. LAST found that lutein, either alone or in combination with other nutrients, did indeed result in improved visual function for people with age-related macular degeneration.
Health First Vision Supreme contains all of nutrients and antioxidants studied in these large trials and more. Vitamins C and E, zinc, copper, zeaxanthin and lutein are blended with antioxidant rich goji berries and bilberry, both of which have shown in early studies to help with dry eyes and eye fatigue, as well as improve visual function in cases of glaucoma.
