Apple season and fresh cranberries are such a good combination. Together in a pie or crisp they smell and taste like fall.

Breakfast/Dessert
This pie works beautifully with a crumb topping or with a top pastry crust.

Ingredients
Apple Cranberry Pie
- 6 apples, peeled and diced
- 1/2 or 3/4 c brown sugar (use ½ cup if you’d like a tart pie)
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- 1 1/2 c fresh cranberries
- Your favourite pie crust recipe
Crumb Topping
- 3/4 c brown sugar
- 1/2 c rolled oats
- 1/2 c whole wheat flour
- 6 tbsp butter.
Directions
Preheat the oven to 375°.
Roll the pastry out and place into a pie plate.
Combine the filling ingredients, spoon into the crust.
If you are making the crumb topping, combine ingredients and spoon over the apple filling. If you are topping with a pastry crust, make sure to cut some slits in the top crust.
Bake for 20 minutes, then reduce the heat to 350°. Bake for another 20-25 minutes. If the top crust is getting too brown, place foil or parchment paper over top.
Let cool before slicing.
Serve with whipped cream or ice cream.
