I sprinkled sliced almonds on top before baking for another layer of flavour, but they're optional. Very enjoyable with our after-dinner coffee.
½ sheet puff pastry
¼ c. brown sugar
¾ tsp cinnamon, nutmeg or cardamom
Pinch of salt
Lay the puff pasty on a parchment paper lined sheet pan. Score a small line around the outside border of the pastry so it will puff up like a rim around the filling.
Peel and slice the apples. Toss with brown sugar and spice.
Arrange apple slices on top of the puff pastry, fitting them in tightly. Bake at 375º F about 20 minutes or until pastry is golden brown.
Slice tart and top with rich caramel sauce if desired.
