Foodsmiths Cooking Instructions: Bulk Peas & Lentils


French Lentils

Directions:  Wash lentils. Bring 1 cup French lentils & 3 cups of water to a boil. Reduce heat & simmer covered for 45 minutes.

Suggestion: Cool, toss with Vinaigrette and add to salad.

Green or Yellow Split Peas

Directions: Rinse 1 cup Peas. Soak in cold water for 8 hours or bring water and peas to a boil for 2 minutes. Cover and set aside to soak for 1 hour, and then boil for 10 minutes. Stir 1 soaked peas into 3 cups fresh water, bring to a boil. Simmer cover for 1 hour.

Yields: 2 ¼ cups

Green Lentils

Directions: Rinse lentils. Bring 3 cups water and 1 cup lentils to a boil. Simmer covered for 20-25 minutes. For lentil Purée, simmer for 30-35 minutes.

Yields: 2 cups

Red Lentils

Directions: Rinse lentils. Bring 1 cup Lentils and 3 cups Water to a boil. Simmer covered for 20 - 25 minutes.  For Lentil Purée, simmer 30-35 minutes. 

Yields: 2 cups
